Images of Sustainable Tourism
The following articles where written by a group of 39 master students visiting Sigri in June 2008. Their stay in Sigri concluded the first year of studies at an international Masters programme on Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management (MESPOM).
The MESPOM study programme is in English and lasts for two years. It is supported by the European Commission and operated by the following leading European Universities: the International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics at Lund University (Sweden), the University of Manchester (UK), Central European University Budapest (Hungary), and the University of the Aegean (Lesvos, Greece)
In Sigri a week-long course module on Sustainable Tourism was delivered, focusing on positive and negative impacts of tourism, tourism trends and the responsibility of different stakeholders in developing tourism sustainable. Basic policies, principles and indicators where used to make a brief assessment of potentials and barriers regarding sustainable tourism development in Sigri.
The students where assigned to make their own observations and interviews, review the present situation and present their findings (promotional and/or critical) in a short newsprint article. Thus the following articles represent the view of 39 master students from all over the world regarding tourism development in Sigri.
