SIGRI–tourism @ its best

“Only the traveling is good which reveals to me the value of home and enables me to enjoy it better”
- Henry Thoreau-
The sleepy fishing town of Sigri is never on anyone’s top vacation list. Surprisingly, the town has its own charm and character that undeniably captivating.
“Sigri is addicting and you can’t get enough of it” according to a British couple who made the town their annual summer destination. True enough, Sigri offers the usual tourist attractions– sun, sand, and sea- beat the developers and rowdy crowd at commercial beaches. “Sigri has unique laidback warm atmosphere. The town itself has peaceful ambiance” volunteered by a German boat owner. Indeed, the place is so tranquil yet welcoming to new souls who want to discover the value of community.
Even with a small population of three thousand, hospitality abounds. Smiling and curious faces and freebies never run out whether in a bakery, bar and restaurant.
Chilling out in local restaurants and bars overlooking the sea is the best way to spend the late afternoon while catching the breathtaking sunset. The return of the fishing boats to the harbor is the highlight of the day and concludes the day’s affair. Chatting with the locals is also a cheap
way of keeping abreast with local issues as everyone is updated with what’s going on in town. Everyone knows everyone and the famous saying “no man is an island” cannot be described any better than having a taste of Sigri.
A truly island experience
Travelers always wanted a perfect island getaway. Not crowded, no traffic jam, fresh air, clear water, blue skies, local fresh food and unique hospitality. Name them and Sigri got them all. Sigri
offers an excellent sanctuary to those escaping the brunt of urban jungle, yet also caters the taste of party animals albeit with local flavor. Located in the westernmost part of Lesvos Island, getting to Sigri is a bit challenging. One has to take a zigzag road passing a picturesque landscape
from Mytilini en route to Kaloni for 2-hour drive. The best way to get there is by car as transport is still limited.
Based on interviews with some travelers, the following are the top list that they would consider a truly “Sigri experience”

4. Foods – fresh local culinary delight straight from the bounty of the sea and local farms is a sure pleasure.
3. Landscape- from powdery beach sand to rolling hills to clear blue sky nothing seems missing in the picture frame.
2. Fishing – hand-line fishing is becoming a pastime favourite among locals & tourists.
