Sigri 3Style Area Cup

Sigri - strong winds, traditional lifestyle and an amazing freestyle spot
If you look at the pictures of the freestyle spot, close to the little traditional village of Sigri, in Lesvos, Greece you start to wonder why this area hasn't already got the status of the next freestyle-windsurfing paradise.
The Sigri Surf-center, where the EFPT event from the 10th-12th of August 2012 will take place, is located in a beautiful bay, which delivers perfect flat water conditions. Sailing further outside, small chop allows big air moves and the chance for all pro-riders to show their new school maneuvers on a higher level.

On stronger wind days, windsurfers even get the possibility to ride a 'starboard-tack Pozo' with port-tack wave-riding on the way in, in the channel, which is located close to the surf-center.

We talked to UK freestyle windsurfer Jamie Drummond (Starboard/Tushingham) and Michael 'Rossi' Rossmeier (F2/Gaastra), freestyle hotshot and tricktionary author from Austria, about Sigri.

Jamie: ' I am really excited about the event now, it's been about four years since I last sailed on Lesvos and I can't wait to go back! I worked for two summers on the south of the island in Skala Eressos. The conditions there were super flat but a bit gusty as the wind is offshore, so on days off we would drive to Sigri on the west side of the island. In quite a small area there was such a massive range of conditions - super flat water, waves and jumping are all on offer as there are lots of bays facing different directions. The wind is generally cross-shore when the Meltemi is blowing and is often force 5-7, offering perfect conditions for freestyle. Sigri village is beautiful too with some amazing fish restaurants along the waters edge, somewhere for us to relax after a day on the water.'

Rossi adds that: 'Sigri offers perfect conditions for freestyle and it gives spectators the chance to sit on the rocky coast, surrounding the bay, to be really close to the action.'

Not only the potential choice of different kind of conditions, but also the wind-statistics justify the decision of running a freestyle windsurfing event there. With the spot being exposed to two main wind directions and a wind-statistic of up to 90% above force four beaufort in August, it seems Sigri is the logical choice to make.

Jamie, Rossi and the EFPT send you all a very excited: 'See you in Sigri!'.
